There’s nothing better than finding cleaning products that actually work. Explore our list of Japanese favorites for every room in your house!
Whether you clean your home once a day, only at the end of the season or somewhere in between, we all have to get rid of the dirt and grime at some point. Here at Savvy, we’re well-versed in the ways of purifying our homes with articles about bug-proofing your home and spring cleaning lessons provided by one writer’s Japanese mother-in-law. This time, however, we’re going room-to-room with our guide to Japanese cleaning products for each space to shine.
From the welcoming genkan (entrance) to the balcony fit for drying laundry, we’ll tour a typical home and showcase popular cleaning products and their natural alternatives for each.

For getting all of the oil residue out of your kitchen, you need to deep-clean your microwave, oven, gas stove top and ventilator fan. For all of these surfaces, try Kao Magiclean Degreaser.
If you are looking for a more natural alternative, we suggest LEC Sesuki. It uses alkaline electrolyzed water to remove oily stains and grease from your kitchen (and clothes, too!).
Drain Cleaner
Your kitchen drain is filled with food scum and grime. Why not use Look Plus Reset to remove it hassle-free? Just drop the powder into the sink, add water and let it soak.
If you would like to deep clean your sink without using harsh chlorinated products, try MUJI’s baking soda cleaner and give it a good scrub. You can also use this Cogit Bio drain pipe cleaner, which helps to remove odors and dirt.
Or, you can wet a LEC melamine cleaning sponge with water and wipe away. These sponges can remove stubborn stains on glass, tile, and non-reflective plastic and stainless steel.

Shower rooms are prone to developing mildew and mold. Kabi Killer is the perfect product if you are looking for a strong and effective foam spray for removing spores. Another product that is practical for scrubbing the inside of your bath or the floor of your shower room is Jif cream cleanser. You can use it to scour surfaces with a large sponge.
If you prefer to clean your shower room with less chlorinated products, look no further than this Ecostore product. It can be used to clean the bathtub, drain, shower walls and even the ventilation fan filter.

Polish your multi-use washroom mirror often to keep it in top condition. Use Kao Magiclean Glass Cleaner along with a microfiber cloth to scrub streaks and grease off your glass mirrors efficiently.
Washing Machine Cleaner
When you want to clean your washing machine’s drum, try using Senjoriki. It helps break down accumulated soap scum and debris inside the drum of both top—and side-loading washing machines.
For those interested in a green alternative, try this powder cleaner by LEC, which doesn’t use chlorine or oxygen-based additives.

Toilet cleaning is necessary for daily hygiene and to keep germs at bay. Use the Earth brand Rakuhapi Baburoon Toilet Bowl to deep clean your toilet and effectively remove persistent stains.
For a greener alternative, Muji’s Citric Acid cleaner removes limescale around faucets and urine stains in and around toilets.

Cleaning the floors in your home is essential to any osouji (big cleaning) project. The My Pet cleaner is especially good for cleaning your wood and laminate flooring. Just mix the solution in water, spray it onto your floors and give the surfaces a good wipe with a mop or cloth.
If you prefer to use a more natural alternative, try this spray by Shabondama, a Japanese company that has been making soap products since 1949.
Dusters
To clean the dust off bookshelves and cabinets, don’t sleep on the Quickle wiper handy version. This is a small and compact duster that allows you to reach all the dusty nooks and crannies in your living room.
Balcony & Entrance

For a cleaner outdoor space, with nothing but hot water, use this Daiso brush to scrub the grime off your concrete balcony.
Pet Bottle & Brush
Get your genkan (entrance) and balcony in peak condition by getting in between tiles and sliding door tracks. This reasonable Daiso product will clean the grout lines in your entrance way or the sliding door tracks to your balcony.
